Tyre Disposal
by using sustainable
practices and ensuring that our resources are used more efficiently.
We practice the latest manufacturing and
management techniques, working to meet the standards as outlined by Michelin. Michelin actively supports projects to recycle worn tyres, where the end-of-life tyre is used as the raw material for road surfaces and flooring, and even as a source of fuel. In the UK, Sapphire Energy Recovery Ltd was set up in 2001 as a joint venture between Michelin Tyre PLC and Lafarge Cement UK to recover and process end-of-life tyres for their use as a cement kiln fuel. Replacing coal on a tonne by tonne basis, the benefits of this processing are: recovered energy from tyres redcued use of traditional fossil fuels improved environmental performance of the works tyre constituents absorbed into cement with no residual waste
